Bingo History
Bingo has evolved from the fair game Beano. Numbered discs were put in to a cigar box were drawn and called out. The players marked the called numbers using beans. When they win, they shout beano. The game spread to various geographical destinations. It was widely played in North America around the year 1929.
Edwin S. Lotto is the man behind the current fame of the bingo game. He was a toy salesman. Once he heard someone yell “bingo” after winning instead of shouting “beano.” Impressed by the terminology “Bingo,” he renamed the game Bingo, after increasing the number of combinations in the cards.
Lowe hired a math professor from the Columbia University to create unique series of cards. His name was Carl Leffler. Leffler worked on several mathematical formulas and eventually he came up with 6000 unique card numbers.
With time, bingo became famous as a game played at church fairs. It was used as a way to raise funds for the church. The game because increasingly popular and gathered enough funds for the church.
After the invention of 6000 unique cards in the year 1930, it is said that Leffler became insane and the news has not been proved. The game became a serious part of church fund raising process by the year 1934. It has evolved to be one of the most famous games where players are spending their money in North America.
The Beano game can be tracked back to the 1530, Lo Giuoco del Lotto D’Italia an Italian Lottery game. The game spread across to France around 1770 where it was known as Le Lotto and it was a lottery game played exclusively by the rich men. A version of this game is a popular game in German used mainly to keep children well versed with spellings.
